The core role of lead rubber in security inspection machines
1. Lead rubber is used for radiation leakage protection
When the security check machine is working, the X-ray tube will generate a directional radiation beam. Lead rubber is usually installed on:
Inside the shell of the radiation source
Conveyor belt inlet and outlet edges
Equipment door seams and joints
Its function is to absorb or attenuate scattered rays that may leak, ensuring that the radiation dose rate on the outer surface of the equipment meets national and international standards, and safeguarding the safety of operators and the public.
2. Lead rubber will suppress radiation scattering
If the scattered X-rays generated by the inspected item escape directly, it will increase the background dose of the environment. Lead rubber reduces the radiation level in non detection areas and minimizes the impact on surrounding electronic devices and the human body by partially shielding the scattering path.
3. Sealing and adaptation of lead rubber
Compared to rigid lead plates, lead rubber leather has good bending and cutting properties, and can fit the complex geometric structures inside the security inspection machine (such as curved cover plates and irregular seams), achieving no dead corners protection.
Installation precautions
Surface cleaning: The adhesive surface should be cleaned of oil and dust to ensure a firm bond.
Overlapping treatment: The overlapping width of adjacent lead rubber should be ≥ 20mm to prevent "side leakage" of radiation.
Avoid stretching: Maintain a natural state during installation, excessive stretching will reduce the actual lead equivalent.
Routine inspection
Visually inspect monthly for cracks, bulges, and detachment.
Use radiation detectors to scan the outer surface of equipment every quarter, with a focus on inspecting the import and export areas.
Change judgment criteria
Penetrating cracks or damaged areas>10cm ²;
The radiation leakage detection value exceeds the standard limit;
Used for more than 5 years (even if the appearance is intact, it is recommended to evaluate and replace).
