Application background of lead foil in capacitors
Application scenarios
Early or special electrolytic capacitors: such as the negative electrode or current collector of certain high-voltage, corrosion-resistant liquid electrolytic capacitors;
Experimental/electrochemical capacitors: lead foil as working electrode or comparative electrode;
Partial high-power pulse capacitor lining (with a few old-fashioned designs);
Lead acid supercapacitor/pseudo capacitor research (laboratory stage).

Typical specifications (reference)
Material: Pure lead (Pb ≥ 99.9%) or lead tin/lead antimony alloy
Thickness: Typically 0.015mm to 0.15mm (15-150 μ m)
Width: Customized by roll/piece (commonly 20-300mm)
Surface: Smooth or slightly roughened treatment (increasing specific surface area/contact)
State: Soft state (annealed state)
Characteristics of lead foil in "capacitor/electrochemical system"
characteristic
1. Conductivity
Good (slightly lower than pure Pb, still usable)
2. Acid and corrosion resistance
Superior to pure Pb (Sn promotes uniform passivation)
3. Solderability
Better than pure Pb (but lead solder is currently banned)
4. Density
Very large (≈ 10.5-11 g/cm ³) → bulky
5. Oxide film
Can generate PbO ₂ (anode)/PbSO ₄ (cathode)
What are the advantages of using lead foil to make capacitors?
1. Strong acid resistance
2. Easy to process into foil
3. Can self passivate in sulfuric acid system
4. Low cost (from the perspective of raw materials)
There is no clear shelf life, as long as there is no oxidation, slag, wrinkles or holes, it can be used. It will not significantly decrease in performance after being stored in a dry and cool environment for 3-5 years. Just wipe off the surface dust before use.
Absolutely not, when using lead foil for radiation shielding, other metal foils cannot be used as a substitute, as it cannot completely block scattered radiation and is considered a violation of regulations.
